In 1973, founders Thomas and Jane Willhite created PSI to spread fundamental life success principles, which had brought meaning and liberty to their lives.
A Means of Seeing Truth
"This is the function of PSI - to draw out truths. PSI is not a religion; therefore, it cannot conflict with any religious beliefs. PSI is a vehicle. . . a means of seeing truths. . . which can be used to deliver the reality of peace of mind, liberty, love, and wisdom to the world of today." -- Thomas Willhite, Path to Liberty, 1978.
The founder of PSI Seminars, Thomas Willhite, came from a background of hardship. As a young, impoverished father of three, struggling to make ends meet, he felt as though he had hit rock bottom. He became involved with motorcycle gangs, drinking, smoking, violence, and other vices. His self-esteem was nonexistent and the negative thoughts in his head ruled his life, perpetuating his situation. This way of life eventually resulted in a divorce and losing custody of his children.
Yet, through it all, he believed somehow life would turn around. And it did, the day he met William Penn Patrick, who became his tutor and guide. Through applying the teachings of Penn Patrick, Thomas was able to chart a different course. He had some hard lessons to learn, but he saw the amazing results he could create by following his tutor's guidance.
During all this, he met and fell in love with Jane Corwin. She stood by him through all of his struggles and eventually they were married.
Thomas created classes to teach the methods and lessons of Penn Patrick. At first, he used them to help the direct sales company they both worked for. The classes were a huge success, but even though they could create tremendous results for the company's bottom line, Thomas did not receive much acknowledgment for them. Even though he was puzzled by this, he did not give up.
After William Penn Patrick died in an accident in June of 1973, Thomas realized it was time to leave that company and start out on his own. Thomas and Jane Willhite formed PSI Seminars and its nonprofit partner, PSI World, over the kitchen table with only each other, $200, and a dream.
In 1983, Thomas Willhite died in a plane crash when his plane went down at the company headquarters. Since that time his wife, Jane C. Willhite, has run the company as CEO and is responsible for its current growth and success. Immensely effective since the 1970s, PSI continues more than three decades later to chart a course of expansion for this unique educational company.
Today, PSI has helped over 500,000 people worldwide to create the life of their dreams by exploring and breaking through their limiting beliefs. The same teachings and truths the company was based on work today because truth is timeless. Thomas believed true liberty is achieved by freeing the mind.
